TBARC - Amateur Radio Club, Tryon NC

I want to introduce you to TBARC’s Facebook Group.  This is a private group that can only be viewed by club members and only club members can post or comment in the group.  If you want to participate in the group all you have to do is login to Facebook then search for “TBARC - Amateur Radio Club, Tryon NC” and it should show up in your search results.  Just click on the results and then click on the Join button.   I will get notified and once I have checked that you are a club member I will admit you to the group and you will be able to post or read the group

contents.

Why should I join the group?

The group will allow you to communicate with other club members outside of regular club meetings or the weekly Monday night Net.  I know you can use the repeater to communicate with members but if they are not on the repeater when you throw out your call then they won’t hear you. With the Facebook group you can post a comment and it will be there for other members to see when they login and check the group. They will also be notified when logging into Facebook that there are new posts to see.

What should I post in the group?

You can post anything you want to as long as it is club related or ham radio related. You can post pictures of your new 2 meter radio, or of your antenna or shack setup. You can ask questions about how to use a radio or ask for radio/antenna recommendations. You can also discuss topics from the last club meeting. The club up in Hendersonville has a Facebook page at Blue Ridge Amateur Radio Club W4YK so I suggest checking them out to see what kind of things their club members are posting.

Notes

If you have any problems getting into the group or any question about the group just email me at  marshall@gotspeech.net and I’ll be happy to help.  As always, when dealing with social media you are free to ignore or delete any Facebook friend requests that you are not interested in. If you are hesitant or unfamiliar with Facebook, there is nothing to be afraid of, just  don't post any personal information and you will be okay.  You can also ask your kids or grandchildren to show you around Facebook as the younger generations know all about it.

Contributions to the TBARC Repeater Maintenance Fund may be made by mailing a check for any amount you wish to the TBARC address and note on the check that it is for the repeater fund. Any financial help would be most appreciated. Remember that this repeater becomes an emergency communication repeater for all of Polk & Rutherford Counties, Upper Spartanburg and NW Greenville SC Counties during really bad weather. Also, if you monitor the repeater we simulcast over our repeater any Weather Warnings that the Greenville Weather Service at the GSP Airport issues for this area.
